1945 - 2008
Halim was an Arab-American activist pioneer, former President of the ADCMA, and one of the first ADC national board members. With his outgoing personality, humor, and open heart, Halim played an important role in mobilizing the local grassroots community up to the national level. Halim helped found the West Roxbury Arabic School for children, as well as the Arabic Hour weekly cultural television program, and helped translate the Driver’s License manual into Arabic for the commonwealth of Massachusetts. For his evident commitment to the Arab-American community, Halim became the mayoral liaison to the Arab American community to then Mayor of Boston Raymond Flynn in 1985. Halim awde is survived by his wife Labebe awde, his son George Awde, and his daughters Rania Awde, Nedal Awde-Smith, and Raghida Awde. We offer our deepest condolences to his family for their loss; which is indeed a loss to the whole Arab-American community in Massachusetts. Halim, you will be dearly missed!
